The deadline to register to vote or update a registration due to a change of address, or name, prior to the 2020 General Election is October 5, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Absentee Voting In-Person Information

Absentee voting in person for the 2020 General Election will begin October 6, 2020.

Dates here are current as of August 2020. Due to the pandemic, these dates may change by order of the Governor or Secretary of State of Indiana.

Absentee voting in person for the 2020 General Election will end November 2, 2020 at EXACTLY 12:00 PM Eastern Time. This time is by state mandate and is strictly enforced.

Voters will need to show a photo ID that meets ALL of the following criteria:

  1. Must display the voter’s photo,
  2. Must display the voter’s name
  3. Must display an expiration date, and must either be current, or have expired after November 6, 2018, AND
  4. Must be issued by the State of Indiana, or the Federal Government*

*In most cases, an Indiana driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card, Military ID or US Passport is sufficient. A student ID from an Indiana State school may only be used if it meets all of the 4 criteria specified above. A student ID from a private institution may not be used for voting purposes.

NOTE: An ID issued by the US Department of Defense, a branch of the uniformed services, the Merchant Marine, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (or Veterans Administration), or the Indiana National Guard is not required to have an expiration date, or may state that the document has an “Indefinite” expiration date.

In-person absentee voting begins on Oct. 6, 2020. The following locations will be open for in-person absentee voting. Maps to the locations can be found below and in the Vote Center Locations page.

Absentee Ballot Application Information

  • Absentee ballot applications to vote by mail for the 2020 General Election must be submitted to the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.  There are several ways to submit them, as outlined below.
  • You can apply for an absentee ballot by mail online at Indianavoters.com.  If you are a registered voter in the State of Indiana you can submit an ABS-MAIL or ABS-POR CORREO application by clicking the “Visit My Voter Portal” button on that page, entering your registration information exactly as it appears on your current voter registration, and clicking Absentee Voting in the gray sidebar on your portal page. (NOTE: Voters will be asked to opt-in to Two-Factor Authentication or, if already enrolled, enter their 2FA credentials, before accessing their personalized voter portal page)
  • Applications to vote absentee by mail must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020. The post-mark date does not apply.  Click here to obtain an absentee ballot by mail application (En Español)
  • Applications may be hand-delivered, mailed, or faxed and will not be accepted at any other location.  Applications can now also be submitted by e-mail, see details regarding all methods of submitting an application, below.
